Handler was the child of a salesman as well as a domestic worker. Her mother was an German Immigrant, who immigrated to the United States in 1958. After ten long years of fight against breast cancer, she passed away in 1989. Handler's dad is Jewish and she was raised to Reform Judaism. Handler grew up in a good neighborhood and was a very happy child. When she was 19, she made the move to Los Angeles, California to take on a profession in acting. To support her family, Handler began to work as an actor. Handler began to do stand-up comedy full-time after she was 21. She realized she was gifted with telling stories. Her career began as an actress in a cast of all females in the Oxygen channel's reality television series Girls who behave badly. It was an amalgamation of hidden cameras as well as practical humor.
